I believe that creating is a political act.
Between Excel spreadsheets, sneaky bills, and the pressure of "being a responsible adult," I choose to embrace my inner child and flourish, even if it's a bit crooked, like an apartment plant.
My name is Mariana Flores, I'm 29 years old, I have a degree in Economics from UFPR, and I live in Curitiba (yes, that city where you never know whether to wear a coat, sunglasses, or a raincoat).
I'm responsible for all areas of my company, Flores Petalum: I design, produce, research, handle customer service, package, and even chase after the post office. In other words, my company has several departments, but they all operate with just one employee: me.
My hands scribble, paint, tattoo, mold, and write because I don't know how to live any other way (I've tried being "just a serious economist," but art always nudges me in the ribs).
And since nobody is just one job, here are some fragments that make me up:
Cancerian with Libra rising, Sagittarius moon, and a chart overflowing with Gemini. They say I have guaranteed emotion, indecision, and chatter, but I don't really believe in that stuff.
Blood type O+ and official donor.
Neurodivergent with a late diagnosis of AHSD; the diagnosis was basically a plot twist that explained the whole story.
Stubborn since childhood (my mother confirms).
Vegan: I don't eat meat, milk, eggs, or honey, and I try to reduce my impact on the world.
My musical taste is truly eclectic: I've gone from sweet MPB to screaming metal, passing through unusual phases.
I'm not very shy, but very introspective; I share my world on Instagram @florespetalum
My first word was potato (priorities, right?).
I have 20+ tattoos and 3 piercings (and 3 pairs of earrings).
I'm nearsighted and astigmatic: excellent for drawing details, dangerous for crossing the street without glasses.
And although my artistic side was never prominent in childhood, it's what guides me today.
I reject the idea that art needs to be monumental to be valid. I believe in the power of a sticker in a notebook, of ink splattered on a print, of a small detail that changes the day of whoever looks at it.
Flores Petalum is more than a brand: it's my personal laboratory. It's open to anyone who wants to get lost (or find themselves) among scribbles, colors, words, and textures.
This is my manifesto: create to breathe (and not freak out), share to exist, and always remember that being an adult can be tough—but it never has to be boring.
